On the upper banks of Buffalo Bayou, a viewing platform overlooks a colony of bats living under one of Buffalo Bayou’s bridges. Tasked with reprogramming the site without damaging the existing trails, this scheme sought to highlight the flight of the bat colony without losing the exterior qualities of the viewing platform.

Additionally, flooding concerns were some of the most important design considerations as the Bayou had almost entirely flooded during hurricane Harvey, and much of the existing landscape was beginning to slowly erode down into the water below. This made anchoring to the site an important part of the design program.
